The Diversity in Misfits

**WARNING THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR ALL 5 SEASONS OF MISFITS!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED**

OK i have been meaning to talk about this online for a while. Last year in March i finished Misfits cause i thought it was going to be removed off of Hulu (it hasn't) But after i finished it and did some thinking i came to a conclusion......The diversity in Misfits sucks

To state, I am a white guy so i have plenty of privileges over many oppressed groups of people and i can't speak for a group i don't belong to but i will use my white privilege to call out instances of bigotry (whether blatant or subtle)

Now let's start with the People Of Color. First off we have 3 main POC characters (Curtis, Alisha and Jess). All three are of (and for Alisha and Jess partial) African descent but notice that Curtis is basically the only dark skinned major Black character while for the Black girls (Alisha, Jess as well as Nikki who was a recurring character) are all bi-racial, light skinned girls (two of whom Curtis has has romantic and sexual relations with) And Three of these 4 major characters....ARE DEAD! Count 3 other minor Black characters (one of whom gets a power where they go into a beast mode) and Jess is the ONLY Major POC character to survive. Also note that only one Non Black POC (A Romani woman) appears in one episode and is only referred to by the G slur (which is a slur towards the Romani people) and add in a stereotypical "Romani woman curses a White person to teach them a lesson" shtick and no other POC characters and the diversity for POC characters lacks significantly (Note Lauren Socha attacked a Asian taxi driver and shouted racist epithets to them)

Now for the LGBT representation

It sucks....baaaaddd

First off with Abby and the woman who created her. The writers queerbaited HARD with them and after Abby realizes the truth she eventually dates a man. Then we have the guard whom (to be fair i liked the actor and his performance) is quite predatory and later comes out as gay. Sure they didn't make a big deal out of his coming out but his predatory and aggressive behavior is very iffy. Also the episode with the subplot of Alex finding out who stole his penis...........the anti trans sentiment is raging with this one. It's revealed in a earlier episode that the perpetrator was a trans man (yeah totally not the trans people being predators stereotype) and Alex misgenders him constantly and ends up hunting him down and makes him give his (Alex's) penis back with no other plan.......wow. I am angry this episode ever made it to air. I do find it very offensive (especially since some of my best friends are trans men) as well as the one girl who was Bi that was used to further Curtis' story (another blog went into detail about that as well as Nathan making anti gay jokes at Simon's expense)

In conclusion

While to admit i liked this show it's representation of POC and LGBT characters was very bad and downright atrocious
